A thick fog has settled over the fertile fields of Carcassonne, engulfing entire farms and swirling up to the city walls. Even the bravest knights tremble in fear, their armor clanking as they listen to the monks' tale: "The fog brings the souls of the Cathars, persecuted during the Crusades. They return to seek justice." To restore peace in Carcassonne, you must work together to appease the restless spirits.
This completely standalone edition, yet compatible with the original Carcassonne game, is designed by the same author, Klaus-Jürgen Wrede, with artwork by Marcel Gröber. It allows solo play or group play for up to 5 players, ages 8 and up, with games lasting about 35 minutes.
For the first time in the Carcassonne universe, players will work as a team to overcome a common challenge. In addition to the cooperative mode, the components of this edition can be used as an expansion and integrated with the base game and any of its other versions. This is one of the most versatile Carcassonne editions released to date!
The box is packed with components: 45 meeples in two new types, 60 tiles, and a rulebook explaining how to play this edition separately or integrate it with the original game. The tiles feature paths, cities, castles, and cemeteries, but what makes them special is that many of them are covered in a dense fog. Upon these tiles, you'll place the ghosts that must be appeased as the game progresses.
Gameplay follows the classic Carcassonne rules: on each turn, players draw a tile from the common pool and place it adjacent to the already laid tiles, connecting one or more sides. Gradually, a unique map is formed, earning points based on completed projects (paths, cities, etc.). In this edition, for the first time, all players must cooperate to reduce the fog and summon as few ghosts as possible, surviving through three days. If too many ghosts appear or the days pass before enough points are earned, the game is lost.
The iconic tile-placement game introduces a new title that will delight fans of the series. But Fog in Carcassonne is also a great choice for cooperative game enthusiasts and casual players who may not yet know Klaus-Jürgen Wrede's classic. Dive into the fertile French countryside and face the dangers hidden in the fog with your group!
