Forbidden Island is a cooperative game released in 2010, designed by Matt Leacock, the renowned creator of the entire Pandemic series. In Forbidden Island, players must work together to save all the treasures of the island before it sinks! Each player assumes the role of an adventurer (such as a pilot, explorer, or engineer) and uses their special abilities to help the team. The game is won when the players have collected all four treasures, make their way to the landing pad, and escape by helicopter.

Forbidden Island emphasizes communication and teamwork skills. Only the bravest adventurers will be able to coordinate with their teammates to save the treasures. The island is sinking, but the four treasures—the Earth Stone, the Fire Crystal, the Wind Statue, and the Ocean Chalice—must be saved. To set up the game, players shuffle the tiles and lay them face up in a cross formation. On each turn, players can take three of the following actions: move across the board, shore up sinking tiles to prevent them from disappearing, give a treasure card to a teammate on the same tile, or trade four treasure cards to save one of the four treasures. Afterward, players draw treasure cards and then consult the water level marker, which indicates how much the water has risen and how many cards should be drawn from the flood deck. The locations indicated by these cards sink (tiles are flipped over), or if already sunk, they are lost for good.

If a player is on a tile that sinks entirely and cannot swim to an adjacent tile, the entire team loses. It's crucial to protect the tiles with treasures, because if a tile with a treasure is lost, that treasure cannot be recovered, and the game is over. This game fosters deep communication among players. Plans must be made together, and decisions must be reached as a team. Each player has special powers and must use them to help their teammates save the treasures. With the rising water level, players feel the urgency and must carefully analyze the situation to find solutions. As a cooperative game, all players must be committed to ensuring success until the end. The board layout changes with every game, providing high replayability. When your team has mastered the game, you can adjust the difficulty level to Normal, Elite, or Legendary. In Forbidden Island, it's all or nothing—either everyone wins, or everyone loses!
