The game features two decks: 43 Ring cards, including companions and Mordor cards, and 21 enemy cards that will earn you victory points when defeated.

On your turn, you can either form a company of heroes from your hand or draw a card from the Ring deck if you have fewer than five cards. You can expand your companies and send them into battle against the enemies you encounter. Each victory allows you to collect defeated enemy cards and earn points, while you must also watch out for treacherous Mordor cards that can weaken your position.

The game ends when no enemy cards are left in sight. The player with the most victory points, accumulated from defeated enemies and companion cards in their possession, wins. In the event of a tie, the player who has defeated the most enemies is declared the winner.
