Commanders, are you ready to enter combat? The goal is to seize control of the enemy's headquarters and secure a strategic stronghold. Every order counts and can have decisive consequences for both armies. Knowing when to call for artillery strikes, the best time to deploy reinforcements, or when to advance could be the difference between victory and defeat. Charge into battle! Designed by David Thompson and Trevor Benjamin, and illustrated by Alex Green, General Orders: World War II is a two-player game, suitable for ages 14 and up, with an average playtime of 30 minutes. This game pits two opposing commanders against each other in a struggle for battlefield control. Both players must balance the desire to seize strategic resources with the need to secure supply lines, avoid airstrikes and artillery bombardments, and protect their own headquarters.
General Orders: World War II features two game modes with unique double-sided printed scenarios. On one side, there's the alpine scenario, ideal for beginners, and on the other side, the island scenario, which introduces aviation units. In both cases, players use their commander pieces to issue orders, including advancing, artillery bombardment, airstrikes, flight, takeoff (available only in the island scenario), paratroopers (only in the alpine scenario), reinforcements, and planning. When opposing troops meet on a hexagonal space, combat ensues, where the defender rolls a die and eliminates as many attacking units as the result indicates. After combat, a wear phase occurs, where both sides lose units. The game also includes operation cards, which can be used for their special effects or to reroll a die, and bonus tokens placed on specific areas of the board.
General Orders: World War II is a compact and elegant two-player game that combines the tactical action of traditional wargames with the tense decision-making mechanics of worker placement. Easy to learn and affordably priced, it offers a high level of strategic depth. Thanks to its two game modes with distinct scenarios, each introducing new actions and asymmetry in the roles (each side begins in a different situation on the board), no two games are alike. Unleash your inner commander!
