Daitoshi is a strategy game where players use steam-powered inventions to expand their city, manage resources, and compete for victory points, all while impacting the environment. Designed by Dani García and illustrated by Marina Vidal, it’s perfect for experienced players.
At last, we have perfected the power of steam and now we can use it to our advantage! We live in an era of unprecedented progress, and new steam-powered inventions are being developed faster than ever. Cities are growing, trade is thriving, and we are working on our most ambitious machine yet—an enormous device that will bring even more progress to the city. Yes, some trees are being felled, and the river no longer flows as it once did, but there is still plenty of vegetation and water, and we can use the extra space to expand our city. Who cares about those old legends of ancestral spirits?
Designed by Dani García (the mastermind behind hit games like Barcelona and Arborea) and illustrated by Marina Vidal, Daitoshi can be enjoyed solo or with up to 4 players, starting from 14 years old, in 2-hour sessions. Players will compete to earn the most victory points over a series of rounds. On your turn, you’ll either produce goods in your factory (to earn resources) or move your magnate to a new district on the central board to perform an action. However, these actions will always impact the environment, damaging the underground, mountains, forests, or river. In exchange, you’ll hire new workers and expand the city, electrify districts, trade with other cities, or acquire new patents to improve your factory, allowing you to produce more in future rounds.
These actions not only help you gain recognition (or, in other words, accumulate victory points to win), but also benefit all the inhabitants of the city. You might even contribute to building a massive project, the Megamachine. Some forests may be cut down, and some rivers may dry up, but in your generosity, you’ll help displaced workers by offering them new jobs in your service. Old legends speak of Yôkai guarding the forests and rivers, but progress can’t be halted by some fairy tales. Still, it might be wise to get involved in reforestation efforts and conceal your role in resource exploitation.
Perfect for experienced players, Daitoshi is part of the Kemushi Saga, a thematic universe that includes various board games like Bitoku, Bamboo, Sand, Yokai Sketch, and Silk. With evocative artwork inspired by Ghibli films, these games fit together like pieces of a larger puzzle that tells a captivating story. Use the power of steam to do business and expand your factory in the great city!
